Inspection URLs

A guide to the inspection URLs metric in Indexing Insight

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The inspection URLs metric is unique to Indexing Insight.

What are inspection URLs?

These are the total number of unique URLs we monitor for a project using the URL Inspection API.

A URL is counted as an inspection URL if it meets the following criteria:

  1. Downloaded from enabled sitemaps

  2. Mapped to web properties are monitored.

You can go to the Index Coverage Report to understand which unique URLs are being monitored.

Your sitemap URLs might not match the total no. of pages in the URL inspection metric. This is because we deduplicate the URLs we find in XML Sitemaps.

We only inspect unique URLs.

How can you use the inspection URLs metric?

The URL inspection metric is designed to help you identify how many unique URLs we are monitoring.

If a page does not appear in the Index Coverage report, it's because it has not been:

  1. Downloaded from an enabled XML Sitemap, and

  2. Mapped to a web property.

Please read the following articles for more information on how to troubleshoot:

  • Not all pages are being inspected

  • Web properties are not mapping

  • Sitemaps are not being downloaded
