How to monitor a subdomain

A guide to setting up subdomain monitoring on Indexing Insight

Updated over a month ago

Any subdomain can be monitored in 3 easy steps:

  1. Select a subdomain domain property you want to monitor

  2. Select the XML sitemap from the subdomain domain property

  3. Choose to either manually add or automatically add web properties

Step 1: Select a subdomain domain property

Pick the subdomain domain property of the website you want to monitor.

Note: You will need to be an Owner of a domain property to continue. Learn more about our minimum technical requirements.

Step 2: Select XML sitemaps from the subdomain domain property

Next, select the XML sitemaps you want us to download.

The XML sitemaps shown in step 2 are taken from the Sitemap report in your subdomain domain property account (e.g. blog.example.com).

If you can't find the sitemaps you want us to download, you need to submit them to the Google Search Console Sitemap report.

Note: Any URLs we download count toward your maximum account URL limit.

Step 3: Add web properties for the subdomain

Finally, you will need to add web properties to your Google Search Console account.

You can select from two options:

  1. Automatically create web properties - Our tool will automatically create a number of web properties based on your URL structure.

  2. Manually create web properties - You can manually add web properties to your Google Search Console account at scale.

You will need to pick an option to start monitoring your website.

Note: If you select the manual option you will need at least 1 web property.
