The following guide is to help clients understand web property error status.
The status for web properties can be seen in the web property settings.
Why does this happen?
An error status for a web property happens when Indexing Insight detects that we can't use the full 2,000 URL API limit for a web property.
The most common errors are below:
Error | Description |
Reduced URL Limit | Unable to access full 2,000 URL API limit for this property. |
Forbidden | Do not have permission to access the web property. |
Reduced URL Limit
When we detect new URLs uploaded to our tool, we analyse the page URLs and map them to available web properties.
Once we begin monitoring your pages, we can detect when we're unable to use the full 2,000 API limit for each web property.
If we can't utilise the full 2,000 API limit, it triggers an error that may prevent us from monitoring your pages.
Why does this matter?
Unfortunately, Google Search Console only allows 2,000 page URLs to be inspected for a web property every 24 hours.
If multiple SEO tool suppliers try to inspect page URLs using the same web property it will cause the 2,000 page URL limit to be reached.
This means we won't be able to maximise the API limits within the inspection cycle.
If we cannot use all the available 2,000 API limits per web property it can increase the number of days to inspect all the inspection URLs.
For example, if we give an inspection cycle time of 7 days, and web properties have errors, it could actually take 14-20 days to monitor all the pages.
How to fix this problem
Check tools that are using the Google Search Console integration.
If they are using the Google Search Console integration then check if they are using the URL Inspection API.
For example:
Etc.
Forbidden
When you sign up to the Google you grant us permission to view and edit web properties.
If we do not have permission to view a web property then we cannot map page URLs to that web property or inspect page URLs with the URL Inspection API.
This usually happens when:
The web property is deleted in Google Search Console account.
The user permission is removed for the web property in the Google Search Console account.
The domain property verification is removed in Google Search Console account.
How to fix this problem
Check the forbidden web property is in your Google Search Console account.
If you can see the web property in Indexing Insight and not in Google Search Console then you need to add the web property back into your GSC account.
